June 2012 - Simply Samantha
just me

I survived!

12:00 PM

I survived yet another year of VBS.
I got to be part of the stage crew this year which I LOVED because I love getting the kids pumped up for VBS each and everyday.
However, I am TIRED. So TIRED. i was up 7:30 every morning and at the church by 8:05 and I didn't leave till 12pm.
Our kids church pastor found me sleeping on the stage during session's numerous times this week ;)
It was worth it though. To see kids pumped up for God each day makes getting up early worth it.

It was my day

12:00 AM

My birthday was wonderful! Turning 19 has never been so good.
First I woke up from a nice sleep to some birthday presents from the family.

ONLY on my birthday and Christmas am I a happy morning person, this should be noted :) lol
Normally in the morning I am not a christian for a good 10minuets :o

My awesome aunt got me a PINK COFFEE MAKER!! Eeep! Probably one of my favorite gifts.
Now I just need a mini fridge to keep my coffee creamer in so I can just make my coffee from my room.
Then mom and dad supplied me with all my hair accessorys that have died over the past 2 months.
A new blow dryer, straightener, and curling iron. Yes!
And my sister, my book buyer, bought me City of Fallen Angels to help my TMI collection along AND she also bought me Divergent that I've been patiently waiting to buy for for months.

Then I was swept away for a few hours by my best friends to Chick-fil-a for lunch and our new favorite Frozen Yogurt place for desert.

Then my friend Hiccup and I hung at mi casa for a little while where he gave me my gift. He knows me to well. :)

Then my big "brother" brought over all his friends to my house in the evening for a little party.
"Signs" was played and so was Apples to Apples.

And of course being the great big brother that he is. He bought me this for my birthday.
Pink Pepper Spray. Love it! lol
Lets hope i never have to use it.

Overall it was an amazing birthday with a yummy gluten free cake to finish it off :)

Angel Eyes

Book Review

Angel Eyes
by Shannon Dittemore

Once you've seen, you can't unsee. Everything changes when you've looked at the world through . . .
Angel Eyes

Brielle's a ballerina who went to the city to chase her dreams and found tragedy instead. She's come home to shabby little Stratus, Oregon, to live with her grief and her guilt . . . and the incredible, numbing cold she can't seem to shake.
Jake's the new guy at school. The boy next door with burning hands and an unbelievable gift that targets him for corruption.
Something more than fate has brought them together. An evil bigger than both of them lurks in the shadows nearby, hiding in plain sight. Two angels stand guard, unsure what's going to happen. And a beauty brighter than either Brielle or Jake has ever seen is calling them to join the battle in a realm where all human choices start.
A realm that only angels and demons-and Brielle-can perceive.

My Review -
If you could see me right now you'd see me giving Shannon Dittemore a standing ovation for being so amazingly awesome and such a great writer.
I've never really been a fan of christian YA fiction (even though I am a christian, yes i know i'm weird).
I don't know why. It just doesn't float my boat sometimes.
So, lets just say right before reading Angel Eyes I was planning on skimming it more than reading.
After the first chapter I was hooked. This book is so great. Its got action and romance and action and angels and action and bible references and action and Jake, OH and there is ACTION!
I totally recommend that you add this to your reading list. And SOON!
And I can't wait for the second book :D Ahh!
AND I might just have to make a video expressing my love for this book too.. SOOOON...

*thanks to Litfuse for letting me review this book. Comments and Review are 100% my opinion.

The Vous

12:00 AM

This past week I traveled down to South Beach with my young adults group "Radius" to attend to wonderful
This conference was SO GREAT. If you live in FL or near the south beach area, you NEED TO GO next year! So many great speakers with so many great words that really refreshed MY faith and got me fired up for God again and reminded me why I serve Him.

The ride down was... Interesting...
Now, I was homeschooled and didn't go to summer camps so this was my first real "experience" on a bus trip. And I say it was interesting BECAUSE, we had air conditioning, but not when we were on the highway, which we were on 98% of the time for the 3 hour trip. Yup.
Then the next 3 days flew by super fast. Speaker after speaker. From 10am to 10pm we were either in sessions or walking around Miami. Each day was so amazing and spirit filled it was just great!

And of course I found the closest starbucks to the conference and visited it everyday we were there.
On the last day we found this GREAT burger place called Shake Shack. Which is the best burger place I have ever eaten at... EVER! Everything is natural and organic and they even will make your burger Gluten free and place it on lettuce! Yes! They even have treats for your doggie :)

And Mend Mark was AMAZING as always and sent my Radius crew some bracelets! The crew LOVED them and loved talking about their message which is to remind us of love through the one who died and rose again for us and for love.

Below is just a little video I made of our trip if you'd like to check it out :)

The only time

2:41 PM

This will be the ONE AND ONLY time I will post a quote by Robert Pattinson. lol
I saw this on tumblr and thought its was so cute and true. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

“If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are. Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you’re better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads.”

Book Review

Winning Balance by Shawn Johnson

List Price:
Trim Size:
5 1/2 x 8 1/4
June 2012

Twenty-year-old American gymnast Shawn Johnson is a four-time Olympic gold and silver medalist; a national- and world-champion athlete. Already a popular role model to all ages, in 2009 she captured the national spotlight again when she won the widely popular Dancing with the Stars. Yet Shawn is no stranger to hard work and adversity. Her loss of the major gymnastics prize everyone expected her to win in Beijing, the all-around Olympic gold medal, was the loss of a dream she’d worked for since childhood. And later, she suffered a potentially career-ending injury in a skiing accident that forced her life to a halt and made her rethink what was really important. She wasn’t sure who she was anymore. She wasn’t sure what her goals were. And she wasn’t sure she was satisfied with where she was with her faith and God. Could she find the right kind of success in life—the kind that doesn’t involve medals or trophies, but peace, love, and lasting joy? This is the amazing true journey of how the young woman who won an Olympic gold medal on the balance beam became even more balanced.

My Review
Shawn Johnson is truly ones of those people that you can just look at and be like "oh she must be such a nice girl". I know I've thought the same thing while watching her in the Olympics and on DWTS's. This book proved that Shawn is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. I was amazed at her determinations with a humble spirit and her absolute love for God as I read through this book. She is truly one great role model for out generation.
This book is a great read and I highly recommend it!

Its June!

12:00 AM

June is one of my favorite months!
and NO its not because its my birthday month
(though its a nice plus)

  • I'm work free for at least a week or so, so I'm enjoying the free time I have by having fun "hang out' days with my friends.
  • I have a sweet trip to south beach in a couple weeks for a conference.
  • Then it will be my birthday;)
  • Then VBS will be coming around, and I am gonna be in full VBS force for a good week!
So needless to say this month is gonna be F.U.N! And I can't wait.

in continuation from my twitter post yesterday.....

When you have NOWHERE to go. So you decide to practice making curls with your curling iron.

And your hair turns out AMAZING! And no one is there to see it!

Frustrating right?
And yes I realized this is a total girl problem. but I'm a girl. What do you expect.
